OT query: Etymology of Brazilian Portuguese "banzo"

Mark Mandel correctly says "quotes" because that's really what I was doing.  I was quoting a passage I had found in Google.

This is the second time today that I've seen an e-mail message of someone
using "quotes" when I would use "says."    Is this a new usage?
