term for "golf shot" etc.

Is there a specialist term for multi-word synonyms of single words (or
shorter phrases)? I'm thinking about examples that are not motivated by
euphemism but rather seem to stem from a feeling that a single word is not
fancy enough, e.g. 'golf shot' instead of just 'shot'. Another example I
hear on gardening shows is "plant material" instead of "plants" (e.g. You've
really put a lot of plant material in this bed.)
