One of Bill Cosby's first comedy albums ("I Started Out As A Child",
1964) included a routine entitled "Sneakers"; he has continued to use
the word, e.g. in a 1984 episode of "The Cosby Show" and, more
recently, in his notorious speech on poverty and priorities.
