Deuce

This is new to me, but surely it's a development of the use of the extremely common phrases "do Number One" and "do Number Two" as colloquial euphemisms for urination and defecation, when speaking to or about small children.

Has anyone done any work on documenting "deuce" as meaning a crap or a shit?
I'm not sure how old it is or what its etymology is, but I'm curious. I
searched Google Books for "take a deuce" but couldn't find any hits. It's
not in HDAS, so now I'm hopelessly lost.
