Fight like a man

There is an earlier(1697) cite
http://books.google.com/books?id=uEkrAAAAIAAJ&q=%22die+like+a+dog%22+date:1600-1750&dq=%22die+like+a+dog%22+date:1600-1750&as_brr=0&pgis=1
which says "Draw, Menteith, and defend yourself like a man, or die like a
dog!"

Just saying.

I was curious about "Fight like a man" (not sure if anyone has done work on
it) and found a cite from 1750 (assuming Google Books is right). This was
just a preliminary search, but it's interesting that it could go back that
far.
