Of interest to me is the spelling-pronunciation of the native american
words.  I wouild assume the spelling was intended to be as phonetic as
possible representing pronunciation.  But English lacks a good basic
phonetic spelling using letters only.

~ = in truespel, where ~aa=ah, ~oe=oh, ~u=uh, ~a=short a (at,am), ~i=ih,
~e=eh

Oconomowoc        ~Oekkaanumuwaak  (stress on kkaa)
Ashwaubenon        ~Ashwwaabinaan    (stress on wwaa)
Chequamegon.       ~Shuwwaamigen    (stress on wwaa)
