Age and gender _and further_ confusion at the Olympics

This doesn't seem any more problematical--or worthy of comment--than "White
Fails to Qualify for 100-Meter Final," "Black Fails to Qualify for 100-Meter
Final," or even "Bone Fails to Qualify for 100-Meter Final." It is not the
practice of newspapers to use "Mr/Ms.Mrs/Miss" in headlines, not even to prevent
adolescents from snickering at the puerile perception of a double entendre.
