Trivial observation on "Where the West Begins"

When I was a child in East Texas in the late '30's and early '40's, it
was said that West Texas and, therefore, the very West itself, began
at Fort Worth. As it happens, one of my nieces is now dating a kid
from Forth Worth. I checked with him and, sho' 'nuff, Texans, at
least, *still* say:

"The West begins at Fort Worth."

All say, "How hard it is that we have to die"---a strange complaint to
come from the mouths of people who have had to live.
