Latest OED revision has naval "ping jockey" 1962-1988.

Jones) 142 [ref. to WWII]: Ping jockey…Soundman.  2000 David Poyer China Sea  (N.Y.: St. Martin’s) 333: The ping jockey on watch got a signature off the Katori.  2005 Richard I. MerrellGangway Regular Navy!  (Westminster, Md.: Heritage Books)  205: I was a ping jockey, and then got commissioned and became a twidget.
