Is anyone in ads-l familiar with "marvel" as a food name, 1880? (See message below my signoff). I'll forward any replies to Ms. West.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Subject: [archives] use of "marvel" as a food name?

We have an 1880 student letter listing the food he has eaten in a week,
which includes five "marvels."
Is anyone familiar with this term?
The closest we can come to a definition is that marvel is another name
for horehound, so perhaps he was eating horehound candy.
