"coming up roses" (OED)

In the OED, for the expression "com(ing) up roses" (labelled "U.S."), the earliest attestation comes from 1969--even though Stephen Sondheim's famous song "Everything's Coming Up Roses" was sung in the musical _Gypsy_ in 1959.

There is also a variant, "turn(ing) up roses," unrecorded in the OED.
