-----------------------------

Capt. [Gary C.] Greer was on alert the night of the big Red raid on Plei Me.
He said the Cong troops were extremely well outfitted with steel helmets,
boots -- "the whole nine yards of uniform."

By the way, Google News (incorrectly) hints at a 1963 appearance of the
phrase in an issue of the *Lundington [sic] Daily News*. In fact, the date
of this issue of the *Ludington Daily News* is 21 November 1983. -- Bonnie
