1996 Richard L. Stromgren in  Paul Loukides & Linda K. Fuller,eds. _Beyond
the Stars: Themes and Ideologies in American Popular Film_  V (Bowling
Green, O.: Bowling Green State U. Popular Press)  126:  _Oh! What a Lovely
War_ (1969)...Dramatic personae are composed of senior officers,
"doughboys," heads-of-state, nurses, wives, and lovers.

There are no "doughboys" (American soldiers) in the film, nor does the word
appear in the script.

Prof. Stromgren was Associate Professor of Communications at the University
of Massachusetts, Amherst.
