"mannery"

I'd always enjoyed the former Ursula Kroeber's novels. Unfortunately,
I once read an unfortunate short story of hers in which she damned
Affirmative Action with loud damnation, thereby taking the fun out of
*all* (judging all by one: "Turnabout is fair play," to coin a phrase)
of her writing for me.

All say, "How hard it is that we have to die"---a strange complaint to
come from the mouths of people who have had to live.
