Blind, Deaf, and Haw [sp]

I'd appreciate information (correct spelling/meaning/origin) on the phrase
"blind, deaf, and haw "[?].   From the questioner's context, I gather that
it was an insult hurled at children in the Midwest in the early 20th century.
