*Stedman's Medical Dictionary *(see online at www.stedmans.com) used to be
the one most used in medical schools (and probably still is) and was the
best and most complete that I could find when I looked at all medical
dictionaries available. And it is what I found to be the most complete for
doing editing of medical writing.

Also, to find terminology not in the dictionaries, I always had the most
recent edition of *The Merck Manual, Professional Edition Professional *at
hand, the latter, by the way, being *online in its entirety,* now online at
www.merck.com (a wonderful and free resource). And regarding Merck, as with
any other medical reference work, always have the most recent edition, which
Merck has online in its entirety very shortly after issuing each new
hardback edition.

If I had to use any two volumes, it would include the above two.

A wonderful place to carefully browse through such volumes, other than a
medical school or other library, is an independent technical bookstore, such
as Reiter's in Washington, D.C., a wonderful resource. And you can also find
them online at www.reiter's.com
