a lot of the google hits are for complaints about the expression.  i'm
not quite sure why it rubs some people the wrong way, but there's
certainly a lot of peeving about it.

yes, it's slang, but it's enduring slang.  might have been around for
40 years, certainly popular (especially in schools and on college
campuses) for 25 or so.
