I apologize for the multiple posts but I do not wish to inadvertently
omit a great find by a list member. A wider search shows that list
Jeff Prucher located an earlier 1957 version of Sturgeon's Law aka
Sturgeon's Revelation.  The cite appears in Brave New Words: the
Oxford dictionary of Science Fiction. The core phrase is the same
"ninety-percent of everything is crud."
