of superstition, even violence.

 "Radical defiance"?  "Unthinkable spiritual liberty"?  A little semantic
clarity would be useful. The context helps not at all.

Professor Neiman, a well-known philosopher who has taught at Yale, is
Director of the Einstein Forum.
