Many thanks to Joel for taking the time to check the Boston Globe cite
on microfilm, and thanks to Jonathan for originally pointing out the
fascinating quotation.

The ProQuest website has a page that describes the "ProQuest
Historical Newspapers" product.

http://www.proquest.com/en-US/catalogs/databases/detail/pq-hist-news.shtml

The description claims that "The Boston Globe - 1872-1979" is included
in the "ProQuest Historical Newspapers". However, it is also clear
that some libraries have a gap in the Boston Globe coverage.

There is a link to a PDF brochure about the Boston Globe database. The
brochure says "FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER , the in-copyright years of the
historic Boston Globe (1872-1979) are being made exclusively available
through this collection."

The ProQuest website does not divulge the names of libraries that
subscribe to their products. Here is the answer provided by ProQuest:

What libraries in my area subscribe to ProQuest databases?

While contractual obligations prohibit us from disclosing which
libraries subscribe to ProQuest products (databases) without their
permission, you may however, conduct a search for local libraries in
your area by using an internet search engine. Public libraries often
have a listing of databases they subscribe to on their website. While
remote authentication may be restricted, in-library use is permitted.
