The ancient Slavs, unencumbered by the yoke of the Roman Empire, went
with _listopad_, literally "leaf-fall." Well, it's actually only the
name of a month - October or November, according to language - and not
the name of the season, nowadays.

All say, "How hard it is that we have to die!"––a strange complaint to
come from the mouths of people who have had to live.
