Query: Slang "Awesome sauce!"

Reminds me of something this odd L. A.-born classmate at Michigan used to say (circa 1973) if something was really cool--he'd shout out "Yo tengo a la SAUCE!"  He'd also greet people by saying, "Hey, what's your story."  We just thought it was just Weird Ron....
