Bill Mullins & This Thread I Started

Bill said, "But I hope you aren't characterizing what I originally posted as a misquotation."  I was definitely not doing that.  I have a high regard for Bill's contributions to this list and I know he would not do the kind of distortion or fabrication I was referring to.

Clearly my starting this thread was not a good idea.  Although the postings so far have been pretty tame by contemporary American standards, the light-to-heat ratio and linguistic relevance of such a thread is not likely to be a good thing for the list.  Probably we should let it die, before Ron Butters' much-appreciated complimentary attitude toward me gets spoiled.
