When I was in grad school, in 1973, the departmental specialist in
Spanish linguistics asked me whether I knew the name of the capital of
Nicaragua. Well, of course. Doesn't everyone? ;-) He was surprised. I,
on the other hand, was surprised that he was surprised. Back in the
'40's - there was a very popular, pswaydo-Latin-American song - by the
Andrews Sisters, if memory serves - titled, "Managua, Nicaragua":

Managua, Nicaragua
Is a wonderful spot
With bananas and frijoles
And a temperature hot
Etc.

Though he's older than I am, he had no memory of this song whatsoever.
