"According to the September 2002 OED News, for the current revision of the OED someone antedated the word "momentum" from 1699 to pre-1150."  Fred Shapiro

Humph.

That's a record that seems safe, at least from me and my early 19th C newspapers.  And Joel can stop worrying about his "piss-house" record -- 2nd place isn't so much more honorable than 3rd that I will strive to push past him.
