At a Council [of War] held at Louisbourg, March 11th 1745 [1746 N.S.].
Present -- Sir William Pepperell, Bart.
S. Waldo, S. Moore, J. Bradstreet, J. Gorham, & S. Lothrop, Esqrs.
The Hon[oura]ble Admiral Warren being also present.

"Complaint being made to the Council by Jona Oak, Wm Cory, and Wm
Piggot against Capt Peircey, representing that on ye 10th day of
March, 1745 [1746 N.S.], at ye house of Thos Poor, inholder in this
city, they heard the said Peircey drink an _health to the Pretender_,
&c. The parties were summoned before the Council, and several
evidences on both sides being sworn and examined, it appear'd that sd
complaint was founded on a misapprehension of sd Peircy's words and
that the health drunk by him was _long life to the Potatoes_."

Either a good save by Peircey, or a judicious resolution by the
Americans of the Council of War in the presence of Admiral Warren.

(I will refrain from divers attempts at humour upon this relation.)

From "The Pepperrell Papers", MHS Collections, ser. 6, 10:57.
