Sorry--punched too quickly again--it's a Grimm fairy tale that's been used
as a take-off point for a fairly large number of stories. None of them are
pre-1839, but they do indicate a bit more than mere petrels. The book I
cited certainly would not have been available to Noah directly--as it was
written 75 years later.
