Hundreds of Google hits, many GB. Most of the GBs are since 2000.

GB has a snippet, allegedly from 1992, that suggests it was coined by Matt
Groening.  This sounds plausible, but I have no evidence.

I heard it the other day, probably for the second or even third time over
the years.
