I don't disagree, but I apparently tolerate some forms more than
others.  (Sample of one, of course.)

And while in speaking I might be led down such an alley, I wouldn't
bother to rephrase it (I would in writing).  Like Arnold wrote (with
the opportunity to rephrase without anyone's knowing).
