OED (v., 15) appears to have no U.S. exx.

1918 _St. Joseph [Mo.] Observer_ (Sept. 21) 7: Hain't had his clothes
off for a week. Looks to me like he's about ready to crack.

BTW, the freq. mod. nuance, "to suffer a mental or emotional
breakdown" (as above) is not mentioned.
