Exactly. Another example from among blues & R&B singers is the
late-great Joe Tex, which nom, IME, is universally pronounced only as
"Joe _Tek_," even though the letter _x_ has no "s" deletable in
writing. So, despite the fact that Muddy *said* only "Water," the
possibility that he nevertheless *wrote* that as "Waters" can't be
excluded.
