"… _los/as diputados/as elegidos/as_ …"


If I were La Academia, I'd simply decree _Feminine_ to be the default
grammatical gender, so that the above would read,

"… las diputadas elogidas …"

and then not give it another thought.

Why not? It makes at least as much sense as "African-American," which
doesn't even have an Academy of Ameican English backing it.
