"up and arms"

The beginning of a blog post on a gaming blog (
http://www.davidrocke.com/apps/blog/show/13417335-mass-effect-3-player-driven-fantasy
):

If you have been on the internet in recent days you've no doubt seen the
recent commotion surrounding the latest sci-fi RPG epic from Bioware: Mass
Effect 3. The commotion around this game has been happening for some time,
and can be traced back all the way to the announcement of multiplayer, and
it only went downhill from there. Fans got up and arms about the ludicrous
amount of day-one DLC *[= downloadable conten] *, ranging from multiplayer
passes to extra weapons and armor, and to top it all off, an extra squad
member.

Note "up and arms", clearly meant as = "up in arms". I hesitate to call it
an eggcorn because it's certainly no more transparent than the original
form.
