Heard on Springer: _The World_ "the United States" > _the world_ "civil life"

Twenty-ish, white male speaker to his prison-penpal chick:

"All the feelings that I thought I had for you while I was in jail,
when I got back to _the world_, they was *gone*!"


Needless to say, I haven't researched this, but, according to a glance
into Google, in a song by The Street Dogs, released in '07 and titled,
"Back to The World," "The World" is still the United States.
