In other words, it's horrifying that nobody seems to notice just how
horrifying it is.

I read this line somewhere about 45 years ago and have seen it quoted two
or three times since.

Who wrote it?

(GB offers a snippet hint that it may have been Randall Jarrell, but that
seems a long shot.)
