The Yale Books of Quotations, the Oxford Dictionary of Quotations and
the Quote Verifier examined that entertaining quote which is often
credited to Wilson Mizner. YBQ had the earliest cites starting in the
1940s. The QI website now has an entry for that quip with a first cite
in 1932. Additional citations would be welcome:
