Let's do this

I just heard the expression, "Let's do this, people." I think I've heard it before as an expression of approbation. 

A good test would be finding an instance where there is nothing to actually do. If a server brings a beer, "do" could refer to drinking it; I wonder if there are situations where "do" cannot be specifically tied to an action.
