Jon, does the term "hater," as in "don't let the haters get you down," correspond to the meaning of the verb "hate" that you are describing here?

Before you start feeling good about Hitler and Stalin, understand that
"hate" means "be envious, critical, or resentful of another's success" in
young-folk lingo - as it has for a fair number of years (often construed
with "on").
