I’m inclined to think “comedy gold” is older than Seinfeld:

Much older, judging from an ad for the film The Baby Mine:

“Kitty Kelly in The Chicago Examiner says: 'Madge Kennedy is what Samuel Goldfish predicted—a comedy mine...  A comedy gold mine for the exhibitors of America…"
