Facebook: "the people being _highered_ are right out of the military" [NT]

In my rural SE Michigan dialect, "highered" and "hired" are a minimal
pair.  The diphthong in the former starts around turned lower case a or a
little higher, and the diphthong in the latter starts with schwa.
