As noted before, the 1981 use of "the full Monty" appeared in the journal Mountain, published in Sheffield, the same location as the 1997 film by that name, and in the region of other early uses of the collocation. (No wordplay between Mountain and Monty is evident here.) I now have a scan (from the U. of Nevada, Reno copy) confirming the 1981 date. Meets: a People special by Michael Schulmann and Tim Lewis pp. 48-49, here 49 col. 2. (Google Books gave an incorrect page number; GB gives an second use in this journal from 1985, unconfirmed.) The 1981 article reports on the "Mountainfilm Festival" in late May at Telluride. Two film-related uses from Sheffield (and a 1973 film in northern England with a gold thread suit from tailor Monty).
