Absolutely a viable alternative. No less a light than Richard Pryor used
the short form. A long form, "If you're going to intend something, then
intend this!" with the appropriate gesture."

Historically, I've seen - and done, following the example of other boys -
the gesture alone, since I was a little kid in Texas. At that time, in that
place, it was just a thing that guys did, irrespective of the presence or
the absence of members of the fair sex, hence, devoid of any psycho-sexual
implication. It certainly has a certain utility, WRT crossing your legs,
whether standing or sitting. Gnome sane?

I don't know any specifically-black term for this gesture. Interestingly,
the only term for it that I do know, _hustle one's nuts_, I saw first in an
article about Lily Tomlin's stand-up act. This was at some forgotten time
in the last century, in some forgotten magazine. Apparently, Tomlin has a
bit in which she goes transvestite, playing a male character so well that
she even hustles her non-existent nuts.
