Describing FDR's slow and assisted walk to the Congressional dais on Dec.
8, 1941,  Prof. Steven M. Gillon of the U. of Oklahoma explains (on the
History Channel's "The 24 Hours After Pearl Harbor") that,

"The hall erupts in applause, catcalls, and whistles.  It was a sense of
energy and excitement that electrified the hall."
