I hope not! But, you have to admit that the only reason that "a friend of
mine" doesn't seem passing strange is that you learned it before your
critical faculties were fully developed, leading you to conclude, like the
CNN anchor, that you had discovered a bug in the English language that had
escaped the notice of millions of less-astute speakers of the noble
Anglo-Saxon tongue.
