IME, the colored use "Mother Hubbard!" as the cover.


Back in '62, a white woman-friend of my mother's told her that white men
exclaim "Son of a bitch!" under conditions in which black men exclaim
"Motherfucker!" My mother asked me whether this was true. At that time, my
personal experience was that her friend spoke the truth.

Black guys, for some reason, have difficulty even articulating it. I hear
"Some muh bitch/Summum muh bitch.." I've heard "Sum moe bitch" once.

This is for the full form only. The reduced, sentential form, "sumbitch,"
is no problem:

"Man, Hank Armstrong, that sumbitch could nub [box, street-fight]!"
