I grant your point. As I myself have already observed, the primary rules of
English grammar are devolving into a single question:

Can my hearer/reader understand me?

If the answer is positive, then speak or write in any manner that feels
right to you. The purpose of language is communication, after all. If
communication has been established, then there is nothing else about
language that is of consequence. If I hear/read, "I walked a well
trodded/well treaded path" or "my efforts have been hidded from vue," has
the speaker/writer communicated his thought to me? Of course!

Why sweat the small shit? Language-change is inevitable, in any case. And
you can't fix snobbery or stupidity.
