Buttons vs. zipper
A very practical feature of the M-1951 field jacket was that it had both a
zipper and snap fasteners down the front. (Like Larry King with red
suspenders and a belt.) But buttons to attach the hood. (Possibly somebuddy
on the list saw me wearing mine for years around a UC campus, in the days
when it was a fashion statement.) On the fly, I would say that the zipper
may be faster, but buttons fail less often, & won't nip yer schlong like a
zipper can.
