IIRC, back in the '40's, the cartoonist Jimmy Hatlo, among other writers,
used to have his characters speak of "the World _Serious_." I thought that
it was just a joke and not something that anybody actually said/wrote.

Of course, in the cite sentence, _serious_ could be just an accidental
misspelling.
