The Dictionary Society of North America is partnering with local
organizations in the New York City area to establish a series of
meetups called MetroLex. MetroLex meetups will bring together
lexicographers, linguists, technologists, educators, and other
language professionals to share research and projects relating to
dictionary technology, dictionary use, language documentation,
semantic ontologies, and lexicography.

The aim is to meet quarterly, and Oxford University Press (NY) has
graciously offered to host the first meetup on January 25th at 7 p.m.
The venue will be OUP's lobby conference room at 198 Madison Avenue
near the corner of 35th Street. The theme of the first session will be
"Language Documentation and Data Wrangling." Three speakers will be
making brief presentations about ongoing projects:

* Daniel Kaufman, director of the Language Documentation Lab at Queens
College and co-director of the Endangered Language Alliance
* Katherine Martin, head of US dictionaries at Oxford University Press
* Slav Petrov, senior staff research scientist in natural language
processing and machine learning at Google
(Ben Zimmer, executive editor of Vocabulary.com and language columnist
for the Wall Street Journal, will moderate.)

If you would like to attend the Jan. 25th meetup, please follow the
