Is this possibly an artifact of someone using the speech-to-text feature
(i.e., speech recognition) on their smartphone to make the posting you saw?
Or possibly a consequence of a faulty AutoCorrect feature on the poster's
smartphone? (Your original e-mail doesn't say whether this wrong word is
part of the *NYT* article or is part of a comment made by a reader, and I
tried googling and couldn't find it.)
